Jon McGee is vice president of planning and public affairs at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. His management area includes marketing and institutional research. His current research and analysis focuses on the economics of private higher education and the intersection of mission, market, and institutional values.
Jon has worked in higher education research and policy for over 20 years, starting in the State of Minnesota’s Department of Finance as a budget analyst, where he was responsible for executive branch planning and development of public sector postsecondary operating and capital budgets.
For seven years, he was vice president for research and policy development at the Minnesota Private College Council. There he was responsible for analysis of state and federal higher education policies, particularly as they related to education financing and student financial aid, as well as collection and analysis of institutional enrollment and financial data. Much of his work and writing focused on demographic and economic trends and their impact on higher education and public policy.
In 1999, Jon joined the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. He serves on the cabinet of both colleges, as well as the joint cabinet. Before moving into his current post, he was the vice president responsible for strategic enrollment leadership, research and analysis in support of enrollment and budget decision-making, and leadership in support of campus visibility and marketing.
Jon is a graduate of Saint John’s University, where he majored in political science. He also holds an M.A. in Public Affairs from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
